"Over-population remains one of the main challenges for social and economic development," said Li Bin, Director of the State population and family planning Commission in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency, adding that China's population will hit 1.45 billion by 2020.
Li said keep and improve family planning policy and maintain a low rate of reproduction, along with addressing the issue of gender imbalance and an aging population, would be a huge task in the future.
Li's words came just one day before October 31, the day on which the UNITED NATIONS estimates world population will reach seven billion.
Zhenwu Zhai, leading Chinese population, said at the beginning of last week that China's family planning policy has been put on hold as of today at least five years, as it prevented 400 million people out of State resident, added to which is 1.34 billion at this time.
"China's Population will have hit the 1.7 billion do not have family planning policy, and it will create more difficulties for the community," said Li.
