Shawna Capotosto Frederick County was named the winner of the State of the parent involvement matters award 2011 in May. Capotosto has worked with parents of special needs students throughout Frederick County public school system in an effort to help them understand the system and find services are essential to academic success. He worked in more than a dozen schools Committee, spent hours with parents when they meet with school officials, and act as volunteers and advocates. Through his efforts, scores of children had become a successful student. Tireless community involvement and volunteerism him invaluable as he brings the perspective of dual for special education in Frederick County from parents who are dedicated and unwavering advocate.
Over the past few years, many local and State PIMA have assumed the role of the winner graciously to support the involvement of parents, including membership of the State Superintendent’s family involvement Advisory Council, testified at hearings of the legislature, serving in local and State task force, appeared in State and local Education Council meeting, and provide advice and expertise on a variety of educational programs and their problems.
